Day 101- Nutrition Bite

The "no flour, no sugar diet" is also another popular diet. The diet requires participants to eliminate all foods that are flour-based or contain added sugars. Eliminating flour and sugar effectively reduces the amount of "empty" calories from your diet. Many of these foods (based on refined carbohydrates) are also high in fat (pizza, donuts, etc). Despite all the contrary dietary advice in recent years, a growing consensus exists regarding refined carbohydrates. We eat too many carbohydrates, which are filled with little nutritional value (not to mention the issue of glycemic response).

Sugar Preacher's Experience

If you are interested in any of the diets posted on Sugar Shun, I would suggest purchasing the book and following the diet. I have tried several diets, and the sugar shun diet is working well for me.  Eating healthy is a lifestyle change. Many good diets are available. Choose one and stick with it.. Consistency is the key in life!!

Day 100- Nutrition Bite

Foods Forbidden on the Sugar Buster's Diet:
  • White bread (includes any bread with white flour as an ingredient)
  • Pasta (unless whole grain)
  • White rice
  • White flour and related products such as cake, cookies, crackers, pretzels, doughnuts, bagels, and muffins
  • Potatoes and potato chips
  • Corn and corn chips
  • Sugar and products with added sugar, e.g. canned fruits in syrup
  • Jams and jellies containing added sugars
  • Ripe bananas (green OK)
  • Raisins
  • Pineapple
  • Beets
  • Parsnips
  • Honey
  • Syrups
  • Salad dressings and sauces with added sugar, such as teriyaki sauce
  • Fruit drinks containing added sugar
  • Sugar-sweetened soft drinks
  • Sugar-cured meats (e.g. ham is often cured with salt and sugar)
  • Beer http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/sugarbusters/a/sugarbustrlists.htm
Sugar Preacher's Experience
The Sugar Buster's Diet might bust me because I eat most of the foods listed above. The big challenge is removing refined sugars from my diet. Plus, it would be difficult to take it one step further by eliminating natural sugars such as bananas, beets, and pineapple (a few of my favorite foods). However, I would like to reduce my white flour intake. All the foods listed above are high on the glycemic index which mean they spike insulin levels. See Day 15 glycemic index for more details.

Day 79- Nutrition Bite

Hazel's Hillbilly Diet had an interesting idea! The diet mentions to chew the unhealthy foods because of the taste factor. Then, spit the food out but swallow the healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. Click on video for Hazel's Hillbilly Diet.

Sugar Preacher's Experience
Recently, I viewed a you tube video when I was searching the use of the name "Hillbilly Diet". This video was highly entertaining; however,  I am not sure how effectiveness the concept of spitting out unhealthy food would be. Nutrients or chemicals have an affect on the body as soon as they enter the mouth.

Day 54-Nutritional Bite

Swedish scientists discovered that a "Paleolithic Diet" reduces risk to diabetes. In the study, eating like a caveman improved the bodies ability to process sugar, even more than the Mediterranean diet. Both diets emphasized lean meats, fish, and vegetables. However, the "Paleolithic Diet" consumed more fruits and nuts and small amounts of grains and dairy products.

Sugar Preacher's Experience
The statistics were interesting regarding the "Paleolithic Diet" and how it improved the bodies ability to process sugar. I am sure the small portion size of the caveman diet also contributed to the results of the study. I am going to incorporate more nuts in my diet. The fat calories from nuts will hopefully help reduce my sugar cravings.
