Day 247- Nutrition Bite

The U.S. food policy contributes to the obesity epidemic by driving down farm commodities such as corn and soybeans. Fruits and vegetables are gown with little government support and have steadily increased in price. The low prices of corn and soybeans have prompted increased production and sales especially inexpensive high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) which has skyrocketed in recent years. HFCS is processed differently in our bodies and can lead to fat storage. Whether or not intended, current farm policy has directed food industries into producing low-cost, processed foods high in added sugars and oils.

As the government subsidizes corn, we pay for it!! I hope that the government will place emphasis on subsidizing fruits and vegetables. I love fruits and vegetables, and I would love to pay less for them!!
